ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser Hair Removal treatments are a fast & effective way to rid any unwanted body & facial hair. The tiring days of waxing and shaving are long gone and can now be replaced with a few simple laser treatments to give you the hair free body you are after.

At Body Recon we offer you the complete state of the art medical laser hair removal system.

Quite often we hear arguments that one laser is better than another, or even that an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is as good as a laser. The truth is that every person is different and no one laser is perfect for everyone, this is why we use three unique medical grade lasers; which are the most effective and efficient on the market.

Our AL-40 Alexandrite laser is perfect for fair to medium skin, our Fotona SP-Dynamis NdYAG laser is the gold standard for darker skin clients and those with deep or coarse hair.

For extremely fine facial hair our Fotona QX MAX laser has a special mode for treating even the most stubborn hair that cheap IPL’s often leave behind.

Sometimes if needed, we can use a combination of all 3 lasers on our clients for superior results.

Body Recon’s highly skilled & trained Dermal Clinicians will provide you with the safest, quickest & most effective laser treatments within a medical and supervised clinical environment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Prior to any treatment we will require you to make an appointment for a test patch/ consultation. During this time we will be able to give you more information regarding your laser hair removal and perform a test patch. We will assess your health and ensure the laser will be a correct treatment option for you. The test patch is necessary to ensure you will get a good response from our lasers and secondly to ensure the treatment settings are safe for you, minimising the risk of complications such as burns or hyperpigmentation. This test patch is still required even if you have had laser elsewhere, as our lasers are extremely high powered medical devices.

Contact the clinic on (03) 5221 1747 to arrange your test patch.

Laser is one certain wavelength that travels into the skin, down the hair shaft to the follicle, attracting and absorbing the dark pigment within the hair. Each session the laser light is converted from light to heat energy, damaging the hair follicle leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected.

Yes, at Body Recon we have highly skilled/trained Nurses and Dermal Clinicians that can provide you with a safe and effective treatment within a medical environment. We use only medical grade lasers and tailor treatments that are best suited to you. Laser of any sort becomes dangerous when people who are untrained or under qualified begin performing treatments that they don’t have enough knowledge or experience in performing.

No, we strongly advise our patients that laser hair removal is a permanent reduction, not removal. There are many factors that can influence and stimulate hair growth such as; age, medication, hormones, pregnancy, illness and disease, therefore we cannot categorise hair removal as permanent. In saying this, if patients are consistent and follow through with their series of treatments, you should see approx. 80-90% reduction of the hair growth. However a lot of patients find that the hair growth that comes through is very fine and sporadic that they tend not to worry.

You may need anywhere from 4 -10 treatments, as a minimum, in the one area to achieve desired results. We recommend all of our patients to continue their treatments consistently until they see very minimal hair growth present. Areas on the body that are hormonal (face, pubic area, chest, stomach and backs of thighs) may need a few more sessions and maintenance treatments to keep hair growth very minimal.

Ideally when starting out with laser, we strongly suggest coming in for your treatment once every 4-6 weeks until we see a reduction in the hair. Once the hair growth becomes slower, finer and patchier, we can then push your treatments out to 8 weeks, 12 weeks and so on until we see close to minimal growth in the follicles. It may also be advisable to have a touch up treatment once every 6-12months if you find very fine and sporadic hairs coming through due to hormones, medication, age etc.

We strongly suggest not to wax or pluck in between your hair removal treatments as we need the hair to be present and active in the hair follicle. You may shave in between your treatments if need be although we recommended to keep it minimal to see the best results. We suggest you shave the treated area 1-2 days before your treatment so as we can achieve a better penetration of the laser right down to the hair follicle and not just singing the hairs on the surface.

Laser can feel like slight heat building within the skin although most clients find our laser to be quite comfortable. At Body Recon, we also combine a unique Zimmer Cooler that plays an important part in safety for your skin and ensuring that your treatments are comfortable and effective. The Zimmer cooler can get down to -45degrees helping to keep the surface of the skin and surrounding tissue cool with minimal heat bulking also reducing any discomfort you may have.

We can treat any part of the body that has unwanted hair growth. Laser best works on hair growth with a dark in pigment for the laser light to absorb and destroy. Therefore laser will not work on red, white or grey hairs as they do not have sufficient pigment.

At Body Recon, we have medical grade lasers that can treat all skin types from white Caucasian skin to dark European skin. Our Nd: YAG laser gives the deepest penetration of all hair removal systems on the market, therefore we are able to treat darking skin types as the laser bypasses the melanin within the skin, to target the melanin within the hair.

Generally during the colder months as the procedure should always be performed on untanned skin and clients are advised to avoid sun exposure after treatments. Since several treatments are required for best results, by the time summer arrives you should be laser smooth and ready for the beach!

This aside, we are still able to treat areas that tend not to be exposed during the warmer months and those that are sun compliant. Our NdYAG is particularly good for those that do develop a tan.

Depending on which areas of the body we are treating, treatment time can range anywhere from 15 minutes – 1.5 hours.

Results vary amongst patients although majority of patients see a reduction in the hair from the 2nd-3rd treatment. Each session, the hairs that are present are a lot finer, weaker with a slower growth.

Some slight swelling and redness may occur post treatment, very similar to post waxing that can last up to 2-24 hours in some patients. Most patients find the redness dies down quite quickly and has gone once they arrive home. We recommend applying an aloe vera gel or tea tree post treatment to take any heat out of the follicles and to soothe the treated area.

Prices on hair removal vary depending on treatment area  We do offer packages (6 sessions) which do allow for savings up to 50%.  Take a look at our promotions for the latest package price list

  • We recommend shaving the hairs 1-2 days prior to your treatment to allow for a greater penetration of the laser causing damage to the hair follicle.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure/tanning 2 weeks prior to your treatment
  • Avoid waxing/plucking 4 weeks prior to your treatment as we need the hairs to be present within the follicle
  • Avoid spa/pool/sauna or anywhere that involves chlorine/chemicals or excessive heat for 24-48 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid the gym or excessive exercise as we do not want to raise the body temperature.
  • Wearing sun block (SPF 30+) to protect the treated area from direct sun exposure to avoid burning or pigmentation.
  • Exfoliate the treated area 1 week post treatment (with a “Riffi Mitt”) to help any fine/dead hairs loosen and fall from the follicles.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
